    what is unfortunate in our country is the myth that can make one legend. most "so called" legends have actually nothing to their credit except marketing and advertisement. the real achievers are often hidden that one needs to scratch and unearth.

    science awards have hurt, not help, in making science progress in india. scientists used to work for fun & finding new things but now they work for getting awards. bhatnagar used to be the fad but is replaced by infosys prize. time to stop

    indian science does not require anything but disruption at every level. disruptive people, disruptive policy and disruptive thinking. but disruption will bring discomfort, especially to those w cushy jobs. are we ready?

    HS students: Don't feel defeated if you don't get into your "dream school". There are many paths to success that don't involve going to a famous private college. Sometimes having an extra 4 years to catch up to kids with access to better preparation is a good thing.

    can't agree more w mike.....spot on. i don't support he's work in producing babies w/o a debate within china but most criticisms in the name of openness sound incredibly pompous.

    I don't support the way He went about this, but the self-righteous criticism of a colleague's secrecy from scientists who themselves often work in secret rings incredibly hollow.

    100% support this. don't submit to just for the sake of submitting preprints. do this so that someone can reproduce w/o sending multiple mails to get details on the methods employed.

    I propose a new rule: submissions without intact Methods sections or a Supplement (if the latter is referred to in the manuscript) should be rejected/removed.

    imho, indian science is suffering from too much of negativity. of course, we have miles to go but focusing on the glass being half empty over half full will take us nowhere. most scientists engage in scuttling others' work & discrediting others rather than doing anything +ve.
