"Disability" is a weird kind of line they draw. If you never look at it, you're certain it's a solid, straight line. If you glance at it, it's really pretty fuzzy. If you stare at it, it's lots of lines. Jagged, and in 3D. Focus on it for a lifetime and it disappears completely.

I am certain of few things in UX, but one is the absolute essentiality of research. It is the one thing that has consistently provided value across every project and team I've worked on, whether external user/customer/industry research or internal team/stakeholder/biz research.

Caveat: it has to work. I am reminded of the time Google Images wrongly labeled two black people. It will be as good as the algorithm.

Weirdly excited to find out that kiosk accessibility actually involves checking the size of characters on screen with a ruler to make sure they pass requirements.

"Knowledge and awareness of accessibility can no longer be held solely at the level of people who create the experiences.”, 100% agree although sadly many people who create experiences aren't even aware.

"But VR has no value without immersive visuals" - don't understimate how powerful spacialised audio is. This research showed as much presence for blind users as sighted, and significantly more if audio description was provided

There was no support for the hypothesis that those with full sight would have more presence than people with sight. Blind participants were creating their own imaginal presence, triggered by the soundscape of the film combined with the verbal description. Their stronger levels of presence emphasize the role played by creative imagination.
Graph showing slightly higher presence for no vision than full vision with no audio description, and significantly higher when audio description is provided

I rarely use the term "agile" these days. If I mean "responsive to change" or "adaptive", I just say those words. If I mean "self-organising", I say it. If I mean "lightweight", I say that. If I mean "cynically exploiting a trend to sell certifications", I say that

Daily reminder, accessibility is for all.

Tweet from @RevRichardColes - "Watching Man in The High Castle and the plot hinges on a line which is mumbled and I've played it back three times and it says, "Take care of it bahzurnlarish". I think no one picked this up when they shot it because THEY knew what it was before it was mumbled. But we don't."
Tweet from @RevRichardColes - "Well, I'm delighted to say that having got a young person to activate the subtitles I discover that "Take care of it bahzurnlarish" is "Take care of it personally, Erich".

Hello Twitterverse, I'm back! I wrote an essay about a slur that a whole lot of y'all are still using, and how I never want to hear it in my presence (or without my presence) again! (The essay is also chock-full of linked resources, so go learn something.)
