    Agree—when the outcome contradicts the accuser, it could either be a case of a false accusation (true negative) or a failed process (false negative). If the goal of investigations was to assess rather than attack the truth, we’d learn that false accusations are vanishingly rare!

    So in a way, the ineffectiveness of our current system *creates* a specter of false positives that fuels resistance to improving the system.

    I believe there is one, correct answer to this question. It’s quite possible it won’t turn out to be the one with the majority of votes. I hope this is followed up with an explanation for educational purposes...

    CAN A TEST HAVE BOTH HIGH SENSITIVITY AND HIGH SPECIFICITY? A. No; they are like a seesaw. When one goes up, the other goes down. B. Yes; these are not mutually exclusive. C. Yes; and also you can also combine tests with these characteristics to achieve your goal.

    I say with no other explanation and an even tone that I expect and require all members of the team to be treated with respect and then ask the patient if they have any questions about that. They never do. Works in 90%+ in my experience. There are likely better strategies.

    Totally. This article recommends “go to” phrases in our white coat pockets as rebuttals from harassment. Tricky for the points nicely laid out (maintaining pt-practioner relationship, trainees being guests). Thoughts?
