    A for Ancestral statues (Autumn, Asleep, Artisan,…) Two wooden statues. One is badly charred by the pyroclastic surge of Vesuvius, and the other features a simple head found in a domestic setting under a wooden bed together with parts of a house altar.

    In 1956, Amedeo Maiuri opened an Antiquarium in The House of the Beautiful Courtyard. Approaching the archaeological site as an ‘Open Museum’, he exhibited Roman objects found in Herculaneum to give visitors an insight into the town’s daily life.
