    My colleague Allison Lipitz-Snyderman led a study just pub . We compared non-recommended therapies in oncology like ESA's, Abraxane vs Taxol. In all cases non-recommended treatments used more in MD office than hosp outpatient dept.

    For a variety of reasons there is always immense pressure to find something positive in any large study that cost a lot of money.

    A good statistician in a trial team should squash this. But, trials take so much time and work and the value of a negative result isn’t immediately clear to involved investigators. Easy to see why we try to squeeze out some compensation from the data, even if this is bogus.
