Hi peeps!
I've turned on contest mode to randomise the photos and hide the scores, because otherwise the top comments in these threads are just the people who happened to be logged in when this post was made. I'll turn off contest mode and return it to "sort by top" in 24 hours.
I hope that's ok!
(And don't forget to view, comment & upvote other people's pics after sharing your own.)
Hi /r/photography, as you might know we have some affiliate links on our sidebar, SmugMug is one of these, they've sponsored our competitions in the past, and today they have provided us with a 40% off code, valid until the 2nd of January 2019.
Money from these links goes directly back to the /r/photography community, we use it for reddit gold and would like to run competitions again. The mods don't pocket any of it.
Hey /r/photography!!
Just over a month ago Flickr announced new changes which will be coming into effect on the 8th of January 2019. The big controversial change is the free account's allowance moving from 1TB to 1000 photos (deleting any photos in free accounts over 1000). We had a lot of big discussions on /r/photography about it:
I think the consensus is that this is probably a good thing. It will stop Flickr being a "dumping ground for 3 SD cards worth of photos from my holidays" and more of a "community where people share photos that are worth being looked at, with people who want to look at their photos". 1TB for free was a ridiculously unsustainable maneuver by Yahoo to pump up Yahoo/Flickr's active users before selling itself off to Verizon, I don't think any business that plans stick around can offer 1TB of photo storage for free without doing some nasty datamining surveillance state stuff. If you're not paying for it, you're the product, etc. etc.
But hey that's just my take on things, for official answers please ask Dan yourself next week! (9am PST, Monday 17th of December, 2018). You can leave questions in this thread to be answered next week.
In case you want to see what Dan said last time, here is link to his previous AMA with us: https://www.reddit.com/r/photography/comments/8k0ewl/ama_incoming_everything_you_wanted_to_know_about/

Hey /r/photography!!
As we all know, Flickr was recently acquired by Smugmug from Verizon, and so we reached out to them and asked if they could come do an AMA with us! In case you missed the news, here was the reddit thread and their official announcment.
Don MacAskill is the CEO and Co-Founder of SmugMug, and will be here on Monday the 21st of May at 9am Pacific time to answer your questions about SmugMug and the future of Flickr.
Please post questions in this thread so they can prepare for the AMA :)

re: size vs ergonomics.
I want both options, I want larger options for those who like larger cameras, and smaller options for those of us who like to pocket our cameras.
I like owning one of each. I used to use both a Panasonic GX1 and an Olympus OM-D E-M1.
I prefer to have a bigger camera for professional event stuff (even going so far as putting a battery grip & flash on top), and a smaller camera for every day use & travel.
I like being able to use all my lenses on both cameras. And it's important to have a back-up body when doing paid work.
Hey /r/photography,
Sorry I've been missing for a while. Life got busy (and also we found some wonderful, capable new mods to take the reins).
I've just had my first solo photography exhibition, I held it this week because I'm turning 30 soon, and wanted to feel more like a legitimate artist while in my 20s.
If you're in Sydney, the photographs will still be up until 6pm today (9 hours from this post). Come say hi, we're at TAP Gallery Sydney. 1/259 Riley Street, Surry Hills.
I'll be recording a Q&A video in the gallery space at 3pm (6 hours from now), so I'd love to get some questions to answer! I'll be streaming the video on Facebook live. Here is the Facebook event
You can see the exhibition here: http://david-ma.net/gallery
The exhibition is titled “Parallel Horizons” and contains 18 of my favourite photos from the past 10 years of travel.
You might remember the first photo (titled "Parallel Horizons") from this RAW Editing Contest from 2014!
And this photo (titled "Quotidian") was used in this RAW Editing Contest just last year :)

Thanks everyone who tuned in and asked questions!
I’m packing up the exhibition now, but I will answer all your questions as text replies.
Hey Nagemasu! I've now put the works up here: http://david-ma.net/gallery
What do you think? :D
Aha what are you trying to load it on?
It’s not mobile friendly yet oops >_<
I’ve just tested it on chrome so far but I was so excited that I had to share it

Wait...... Edna Mode was female???? WTF IS HAPPENING TO MY BRAIN RIGHT NOW?!
The character Edna Mode is female, but her voice actor is male (Brad Bird, also the director of The Incredibles).
Be sure to follow @RedditPhotography and use the hashtag #RedditPhotography to be featured :)
Our moderators are curating photos from that hashtag to that account!
Hey /r/photography!
First of all, sorry my script is broken so we haven't had regular threads for more than a week now. I tried to do something a bit too ambitious (build a new thing to replace the old script) if I don't have it up in the next few days, I'm going to do something stupid and hacky just so we have some normalcy back.
Secondly, we have an Instagram account!
Follow this account and use the hashtag #RedditPhotography to be featured. It's currently being curated by @Frostickle, @sidbrunskill, @dehazevisual and @ivetteyepiz.
(Not that you have to follow us - I just believe that moderators/curators should be publicly visible and accountable. I think that faceless & anonymous accounts having control over a community is unhealthy.)
Our friends at /r/analog are curating photos from #RedditAnalog to @RedditAnalog, this account is being curated by their mod team. Please only post analog photos to this hashtag :)
And finally, this is the Official Monthly Instagram (and other social media) Follow Thread! So please share your stuff here, and of course take a look at other people's stuff too!
If you post your stream, please take a look at other people's streams!
You can give us your Instagram, 500px, Flickr, etc. etc. and remember you can edit your flair.
Be descriptive, don't just dump your username and leave! For example a good post should look like this:
Hi! I'm @Frostickle and on my Instagram and the three main genres I post are "Portraits", "Food" and "Lifestyle", but sometimes I also post about /r/photography, for instance sometimes I'll post my edit from the reddit RAW contests!
I'll follow everyone from /r/photography back (if I miss you, just leave a comment telling me you're from reddit!).
Thanks for reading this wall of text,
-Frostickle
Hi everyone,
Sorry my script broke! Reddit reset my password because of a security threat. So I thought I'd take the opportunity to make those improvements that I'd been meaning to make... but it was more work than I thought it would be, and I didn't get it finished this weekend >_<
Anyway, please put up with no-automated-threads for a few more days, and thank you very much to /u/anonymoooooooose and the rest of the mod team for covering while stuff is broken.

Thanks for the votes! My name is Daniel Plucinski and you can find me on flickr or my soon to be finished(hopefully) website dpd.photo.
This was taken last month at Detroit's Campus Martius. I quite like how my edit turned out and I'm curious to see how others take it.

1) This is the video that you made, yeah? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBMP7OsmcMc
2) How did you make your phone background/can you share a link to it?
Have a simple question that needs answering?
Feel like it's too little of a thing to make a post about?
Worried the question is "stupid"?
Worry no more! Ask anything and /r/photography will help you get an answer.

Posting in the Album Thread is a great way to learn!
1) It forces you to select which of your photos are worth sharing
2) You should judge and critique other people's albums, so you stop, think about and express what you like in other people's photos.
3) You will get feedback on which of your photos are good and which are bad, and if you're lucky we'll even tell you why and how to improve!
If you want to buy a camera, take a look at our Buyer's Guide or www.dpreview.com
If you want a camera to learn on, or a first camera, the beginner camera market is very competitive, so they're all pretty much the same in terms of price/value. Just go to a shop and pick one that feels good in your hands.
Canon vs. Nikon? Just choose whichever one your friends/family have, so you can ask them for help (button/menu layout) and/or borrow their lenses/batteries/etc.
/u/mrjon2069 also made a video demonstrating the basic controls of a DSLR camera. You can find it here
There is also /r/askphotography if you aren't getting answers in this thread.
There is also an extended /r/photography FAQ.
If you are buying from Amazon, Amazon UK, B+H, Think Tank, or Backblaze and wish to support the /r/photography community, you can do so by using the links. If you see the same item cheaper, elsewhere, please buy from the cheaper shop. We still have not decided what the money will be used for, and if nothing is decided, it will be donated to charity. The money has successfully been used to buy reddit gold for competition winners at /r/photography and given away as a prize for a previous competition.

Are you wondering how a photo was taken or curious about the post processing to achieve a certain look? Then this is the thread for you!
The difference between this thread and the daily question thread is that the daily question thread is primarily about operating or purchasing your equipment. This thread is about more about crafting the content of your images.
This is where we'll take the time to answer questions covering:
How to recreate a photo
How to take a photo with certain gear
How to post process images to achieve a certain style
and other "how to" style/artistic questions.

This is your Weekly Album Thread, where you are invited to share an album that you would like feedback on!
Before posting, please give some feedback on other people's albums too.
Feedback can be as little as "I like this photo the best".
If you are more confident in your critiquing abilities, give people a reason why ## photo was good or ## photo was bad, and what they can do to improve!
Please post "Albums" not "Here are 200 photos from my trip to Japan" or "Here is my flickr photo-stream or website." We have other threads for that stuff!
Join us in the r/photography FLICKR GROUP!

Hey peeps, this is the raw editing challenge!

My username is Ejakulation (with a 'k' because german), and I stand by my name. [not really, it's embarassing and I might need help]
But for crediting, I'd prefer my instagram handle: @axp.photography.
Thank you for organizing all of this, must be a pain at times!
Description:
Taken last week during a wedding. Taken on a Sigma 50-100, so of course, focus is missed slightly... but that's negligible. The image has a lot of potential to be taken several places, so I'm curious to see what people come up with, and how it differs from my approach.
At the beginning of every month, we join together and do our best to view and critique each others websites. The main purpose of this thread is to learn things from each other that can benefit our own photography or websites. Use this thread to talk about all aspects of your online representation, from social media to SEO to personal branding and portfolios!
Having a website is a beneficial utility in showing our work to potential clients so it's highly advised that if you find something particular that could be improved in someones website - please kindly tell them about it and how they could improve the "issue".
If you post your website, please comment on at least two other websites
Please reply to any comments that have no replies!
Don't be hesitant to post a link to your website, even if there's a plethora of comments.
It doesn't matter if you're a "Beginner" or "Professional Photographer", just have fun and learn from each other - that's what this thread is for so take advantage of this opportunity.

(Please try to refrain from talking about gear in here, we have plenty of other places to do that on /r/photography)
