After many commits, IRC/Slack chats, and Crunchies, it’s here: the latest version of Reddit Enhancement Suite (changelog inside) is starting to roll out to browsers near you!

EDIT may 19: 5.12.3 released with hotfix for Account Switcher in new reddit

  • Chrome: rolling out
  • Edge: rolling out
  • Firefox: rolling out
  • Opera: rolling out 5.12, awaiting approval for 5.12.3

This is our first release with redesign compatibility! There are only a few features so far, but don’t worry: the RES team is continuing to bring forward features into the redesign.

The RES v5.12.0 release brings to the redesign:

  • User Tags
  • Keyboard navigation (command line, go-to page. Reddit-provided keyboard navigation coming soon!)
  • Account Switcher

Notice any issues? Please let us know on /r/RESIssues.

We'd like to take a moment to appreciate the hard work of u/erikdesjardins, u/andytuba, u/larsa; and the other contributors on Github!

RES grows daily, and a lot of it remains untranslated. Check out Transifex if you want to see RES in your language.

If you’d like to support further RES development, the team appreciates your gratitude via Patreon or Dwolla, PayPal, Bitcoin, Dogecoin, gratipay, or Flatter.

This post will be used as a central FAQ for RES and the Redesign, please read this first before posting about the redesign.

I don't like the redesign, can RES block it?

No, but you can opt out on your Reddit preferences page, under "beta options" and "Use the redesign as my default experience".

X feature doesn't work/where is Y feature on the redesign?. How can i fix it?

Chances are we haven't implemented it yet. We are still working on module support for RES on the redesign. Below is a list of current module status, if one is not listed, consider it work in progress.

Modules we currently support on the redesign:

  • User Tags
  • Keyboard navigation (partial support)
  • Account Switcher

Modules that will not be supported on the redesign:

  • Comment Preview
  • Comment Style
  • Never Ending Reddit
  • Nightmode (This feature is now integrated to the website.)
  • RES crosspost link

What's up?
With this option enabled: Mark non-selftext links visited when opening the expando.

When I browse any subreddit or front page, all the i.reddit links automatically get marked as visited before I interact with any of them. If I switch that option off, they don't get marked as visited on page load.

Where does it happen?
All of reddit. I'm using old reddit, no idea if happens on new reddit.

What's up? Night mode makes text unreadable on reddit.com/report, the text doesn't change color to counter the black background.

Where does it happen? reddit.com/report

Screenshots or mock-ups https://i.imgur.com/mmtiUJM.png (both boxes have "test" written in them)

What browser extensions are installed? Possibly relevant ones: RES, uBlock Origin and Dark Reader (Dark Reader is DISABLED on reddit, ENABLING it just inverts the colors and keeps the bg and text the same color)

When I click the expansion icon in the reddit chat window the expanded window does not load. The window pops up and the loading icon appears but nothing happens beyond that. The chat works in the small pop up window.

Additionally, the chat fails to work at all on old.reddit.

I'm not the only user that has encountered this problem. I know it's an issue with other users in my chat group.

I'm on Chrome and using night mode. I was just hoping there might be a quick and easy fix for this issue.

I've been an RES user for a few years now, but for some reason last night when I went to reddit it showed the standard Reddit and not the RES. When I select the options I only get three things now rather than, what I think I remember being, about 6 options or so. I tried uninstalling RES but that didn't work either.

Please help!

What's up?

Any post I hide from desktop where I have RES installed, disappears from the topic list, but doesn't show up under hidden posts. Refreshing the page does not bring the post back.

Where does it happen?

Anywhere I hide a post

Firefox is ESR.

What's up? I was wondering if never-ending comments will come back? I would like to review my post history going back to all the comments I made. This was easier in never-ending comment stream before the new user profiles rolled out.

Will this feature come back to RES or has Reddit made this not possible anymore?

Where does it happen? Comments page for my account and other accounts too.

Since the new version of reddit came out, RES no longer allows me to subscribe to a post and be notified of its responses. How do I turn this back on?

What's up?

Twitch video expand does not play any videos. It's just a black box https://i.imgur.com/Jp34DUC.png

Video only plays when I click the link

Every other video site works (youtube, dailymotion etc)

The media control bar that appears when I hover over an image doesn't show the buttons properly.

It looks like this and I think it might have to do with my custom style, but I don't know how to fix it.

I have greasemonkey and stylish installed, among other extensions. This issue appears to go away when I disable my reddit styles. I would like a way to fix it without outright disabling my custom styles. How can I fix this?

EDIT:

Style file here.

I would like to increase (most) font sizes on Reddit. I don't want to zoom in any further because that also increases the size of page elements and then irrelevant content like the sidebar ends up occupying more space than the main column with titles and posts and comments.

I have a CSS snippet that increases the size of post, comment, and sidebar text:

html .md {
    font-size: 1.2em !important;
}

But it doesn't affect the stuff that was tiny to start with, like usernames, post times, or the RES header bar.

Can anyone help me get the right CSS snippets for those other text elements?

(And also are there any plans to implement custom font adjustments in RES for real?)

I was using old reddit and couldn't find my big editor box and/or the quick format buttons.

I'm guessing either this is something specific to me or this is how reddit forces people to go to New Reddit.

I'm using latest Google Chrome.

Anyway, would like some answers. Already try googling this.

Thanks.

I can't see the l+c link that RES is supposed to add to the reddit posts (see pics). I have the RES setting turned on.

What might I be doing wrong? Or am I not looking at the right place?

Usually when I cycle through posts with "j" and "k" it would open up the next image when I (for example) press "j"

Now when I press j it merely highlights the post (even if its just an image) and doesn't open it.

Also, I'm not able to use my mouse to click and drag to make the image bigger.

I can't seem to find the solution in my settings. Does anyone know what is going on or how I can fix this?

What's up? I specifically hover over and filter certain subreddits when their posts show up on r/all, mostly nsfw stuff I dont want showing up while I'm browsing

Where does it happen? r/all

What browser extensions are installed? edge browser extension.

I just noticed when some gross nsfw items are reappearing even though Ive filtered them out previously.

I dont want to use the ultimate nsfw filter on/off switch because sometimes a lot of memes and spoilers are jokingly/incorrectly labeled nsfw, so I just filter out the subreddits for porn and other bad things I dont want showing up. plz help, I'm trying to forget that some of these corners of the internet exist.

Hey guys, so I have downloaded RES before and I loved it. Recently I factory reset my comp and because of that I lost it. No big deal. I re-installed it and noticed it was different. The main quality I used for RES was being able to customize my top shortcut bar and click on my personalized subeditors quickly and efficiently. What is mean is this: https://gyazo.com/fd730db9f4b77a9d8e92a3f451cbfa69

Now I have this: https://gyazo.com/b360a20244921ecd743b9918800689c7

Could someone tell me how to have it so I can have the bar on top?

What's up? Where does it happen? On my homepage or on any subreddit, Never-Ending Reddit fails to load additional pages.

What browser extensions are installed?
ScriptSafe 1.0.9.3 (ID: oiigbmnaadbkfbmpbfijlflahbdbdgdf)
(reddit.com, redditmedia.com, and redditstatic.com are whitelisted)
uBlock Origin 1.16.18 (ID: cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm)
(I tried unchecking disable pre-fetching and even fully disabling it, but no dice)

I tried watching the web traffic in Fiddler but didn't see anything that jumped out as an immediate cause/solution. I see a few POSTs to https://www.reddit.com/api/login.json that return 200 OK with blank JSON ({}) in the body, but the JSON sent in the POST body doesn't seem to have any obvious meaning - and I'm not going to put any details sent to a "login" endpoint in cleartext ;) That said, I'm pretty comfortable with most troubleshooting measures if you have any suggestions I should try or need me to pull additional information to debug.

What's up? When I fly through my links by pressing the J key, I skip over the v.reddit links by just skipping to the next key. I close it before it finishes buffering and the video keeps playing in the background, meaning I have to reload the page to stop it.

Where does it happen? Throughout reddit

With images, gifs, and selftext, when I click on the expando button, the link does not change color to indicate it as visited. It will only mark the link as visited if I click on the title of the post or on the comments button. Is this a problem with the redesign or is it something that should be working similar to the old design?

For example I have filters that apply to post titles but I also want them to apply to the text content of a self post.

The view images button just isn't there. I may be being completely dumb as I'm new to RES but I know you can do that where all the images show without having to click on them, so wheres it gone?

What's up? RES gives me the popup asking me to login to dropbox + give RES permission to use it pretty much every day. It's really annoying.

Where does it happen? First Reddit page I load. I think it happens every day, but it might happen multiple times a day, I'm not sure. Started a week or two ago I think.

Flairs that have been recently edited have turned into a white background with a very light gray text that makes it near impossible to read the flairs. Flairs that haven't been edited in a long time are still legible.

It happens in Chrome and Firefox. Both are updated.

I've disabled RES temporarily while leaving the other extensions and plugins enabled, and disabled all extensions and plugins while leaving RES enabled. The issue occurs when RES is enabled and whether other extensions and plugins are enabled or not.

What's up?

After clicking on an account in the account switcher, there's a several-second delay before anything happens. The delay ranges from a full second to around ten when it decides to be a jerk. This has been going on for a few months.

Where does it happen?
