Allegory of the cave:
Plato was born in 428 BC, in the month of Targilion (May), and he was descended from an aristocratic generation.
He was a student of Socrates and the fact that in 399 BC his Master was condemned to drink the hemlock, it was a very striking blow to his free and restless soul. He realized that his country's policy created an unbridgeable divide for the philosophical, free and unsettling thought he himself conceived and began to travel.
Below you will read about the 7th chapter of "State", in which Plato likes the world we live like a dark cave:
As he had said, there is a large cave, dark, inhabited by many people, who are called bastards.
They are tied in their positions and can not look around. Behind them are several people who carry some objects, animated and inanimate. The light that comes from the entrance of the cave passes through these objects and creates shadows in front of the eyes of the people - the bastards. Since they can not look around or behind them, because of the bonds that fasten them, they accept as reality only what they see in front of them, namely the shadows.

All this setting is set in such a way that the people-bound live in the dark, having a false picture of reality. Their bonds are so strong, that they keep them stationary without being able to make the slightest movement of freedom to discover the true truth. This image is very similar to that of our current society.
Man is formed and grows with the sole aim of acquiring material goods (shadows), without being given the opportunity to cultivate virtues and values to dream of great ideals and spiritual ideals.
Virtues and Human Values are presented in such a way and are so well covered with the colorful and luxurious wrapping that surrounds them, which the 21st century man is totally superficial.
He deals so much with this wrapper, who does not set higher goals, nor sees reality. He lives a life trapped among the shadows that some have imposed on him as a reality, telling him that there is nothing behind this nice wrap. So he remains a slave to the bosses of the cave and as long as he believes in the shadows, he becomes the shadow of his real self. Continuing Plato says there is a case where a man can break his shackles and look behind him where the light comes. At first he will be blinded by his contact with the light. And if someone were forced to live under the brightness of the sun, out of the cave, then it would go crazy. So he needs to move slowly, so he can get used to, realize that the real world is outside the cave and that the shadows that he regarded as a reality are simply a reflection of the sun's light. This discovery will turn him into a happy man, a wise man and he will not want to return to the cave.
But if he decides, for love of mankind, to return back to the prisoners, inside the cave, then he would need another time to get used to the darkness and adapt his eyes to it. Then, naturally, he will try to explain to the people-bound the truth. But, as Plato writes, they will think he is trying to cheat and chase him or kill him. Someone who has read the book "The Seagull Jonathan" sees many similarities between the Man who manages and breaks the shackles of the cave and the gull Jonathan.
Because he also manages to fly freely and develops great speeds he escapes from the simple life of a seagull, who only cares about how to get his food. Plato explains in his book that whoever manages and breaks his bonds and frees himself is the one who cultivates the awake consciousness. Based on Human values and virtues, he succeeds in becoming Free and Creative and conquering the upper part of himself, following a true Philosophical Way. It is, of course, a difficult road with many obstacles because of long-term bonds, but it leads to true Happiness. He who, by true love for humanity, returns to the cave to help the prisoners to be released, realizes the Political Way.
That is, a real Politician is the one who first managed to free himself from his bonds, control his defects and cultivate Human values and virtues and then lead wisely the other people. The Real Politician is not based on the opinion of many, but on Knowledge and Ethics he has cultivated within himself. From this so ancient but so timely parable, we can draw many conclusions. Conclusions that are not based on psychological desires and unfulfilledly repressed, but in a thousand-year-old Wisdom left by many great philosophers and scholars in many cultures, at different times, all over the Earth.
When we do not devote time to seeking the Truth and do not cultivate a global and free thought, we remain trapped in the darkness of ignorance and misinformation. At the same time, without understanding it, we are easily victims of the brainwashing imposed on us, those who move the yarn for an orientation exclusively to matter. Only whoever manages and shakes on him the bonds of his weaknesses and the false impressions imposed on him, only he who walks on a road uphill to his own top and manages and overcomes the difficulties and obstacles, making good conclusions, only he will perceive the futility of the shadows that move in front of him. The right models exist, the answers have been given, let us look around and discover the reality as it is and not how it is presented to us.
