U.S. President Donald #Trump said on Monday (Aug 20) he would 'most likely' meet again with North Korean leader #KimJongUn, while defending his efforts to convince Pyongyang to give up its nuclear weapons. While insisting that 'a lot of good things are happening' with #NorthKorea, Trump complained that China was not helping as much as it had in the past because of its trade dispute with the #UnitedStates.

Kim agreed in broad terms to work toward denuclearization of the #KoreanPeninsula but North Korea has given no indication it is willing to give up its weapons unilaterally as the Trump administration has demanded. Trump has hailed the Singapore summit as a success and went as far as saying North Korea no longer posed a nuclear threat.

South Korean President #MoonJaein will travel to #NorthKorea sometime next month for another summit with its leader #KimJongun, but he may be delaying his trip as it may serve as a valuable chance to rid the communist state of its nuclear weapons should ongoing efforts fail. In high-level talks held earlier this month, the two Koreas agreed to hold what would be the third Moon-Kim summit in Pyongyang sometime in September.

Moon and Kim agreed in their first-ever summit held at the border village of Panmunjom on April 27 to hold a summit in the North Korean capital this fall. They had a second summit in Panmunjom on May 26. The denuclearization talks between the #UnitedStates and North Korea have recently shown signs of progress after months of an apparent stand-off over when and how the North will give up its nuclear arsenal and the U.S. will reward the impoverished North.

A third summit of Korean leaders planned for next month will be a further step towards denuclearization of the peninsula and a peace treaty to end the Korean War, according to #SouthKorea's President #MoonJaein. The two leaders will 'take an audacious step to proceed toward the declaration of an end to the #KoreanWar and the signing of a peace treaty as well as the complete denuclearization of the #KoreanPeninsula.'

The neighbors remain technically in a state of war since the Korean War of 1950 to 1953 ended in a truce rather than a peace treaty. Moon said he hoped for speedy progress in talks between the #UnitedStates and #NorthKorea, with steps by Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear programs matched by 'corresponding comprehensive measures' from Washington.
