The city is acting helpless on this issue. What do you think is behind this sudden inability to investigate a serious violation- a massive case of educational neglect- and to enforce a law?

This is why we had asked to investigate the and , but they forwarded the case to... Howard Friedman, general counsel of the DOE!

It's tough to lump them all in the same bag. The mayor recently did that too by comparing Yeshivas that provide ZERO secular education in some instances or 90 minutes of just English and arithmetic to "traditional public schools that could use some improvements."

. disagrees. "it doesn't strengthen the requirements for yeshivas but arguably loosens them... it's not as though the Felder law creates requirements that didn't exist before the Felder law."

Naftuli Moster of charges that the city was "colluding" with yeshivas "to let them get off easy by letting them direct the investigation."

: Great segment on the dismal lack of education in Hasidic yeshivas. Rabbi Zwiebel did a fine job obfuscating the issues. Read this op-ed I wrote to understand what it's really like for Hasidic boys: Thank you for shining a light on this!

Thank you for your continued coverage of this issue! All children - even those with religious parents - deserve an education. The city needs to protect these kids from the terrible burden of a life of ignorance.

3. Schick's "explanation" for the butcher shop saga seems like an admission. Which begs the question, if the city was standing at the location of UTA's offices, why did the letter say it was just "a butcher shop, not a school?" That has PEARLS handwriting all over it.

2. Our July 2015 complaint was shared publicly and can be found here: What we had asked was to keep the names of signatories private (for their safety) and the names of the Yeshivas private, so as not to shame them publicly (at that point in time).
