كان المخيم الأول الذي احتضن اللاجئين في العباسية بالقاهرة، حيث تم تجميع الفلسطينيين في ثكنات كان يستخدمها البريطانيون أيام الحرب
لكن أعدادهم تزايدت إلى الحد الذي اُضطر وزارة الشؤون الإجتماعية إلى إقامة مخيم آخر في القنطرة شرقًا
