My favorite moment of the day: the 70 year old mother in a wheelchair celebrating her vote for Fatah and her son accompanying her who voted for a secular ticket. They both smiled lovingly at each other as each explained their vote to me.

IHEC says that it will be faster and easier to count ballots. Picture shows various ways results are being transmitted straight from Sulaymaniyah to Baghdad, including via satellite apparently.

IHEC spokesperson tells politicians suggested keeping polling open past 6pm (official closing) to allow more participation. IHEC says it's not possible because voting machines programmed to not accept ballots past 6. ,

Niqash journalist spoke to IHEC. Voter turnout by 12pm as follows: Baghdad 12%, Diyala 23%, Maysan 23%, Muthanna 22%, Wasit 22%, Dhi Qar 21%, Diwaniya 21%, Karbala 19%, Najaf 17%.
