More than a word game: since 2015, the Party General Secretary "issues important instructions" while the Prime Minister only "offers written comments"

The article describes Abe's initiative as a way to ease trust between China and the US but it could produce exactly the opposite if it goes forward, consolidate links between countries outside the Great Firewall - and it could be the real intention.

10. China does not desire a fight, is not afraid to fight, but will fight if necessary (中国不愿打,不怕打,必要时不得不打). China's sovereignty and dignity is at stake. In the end, the "community of shared future for mankind" will prevail against the "old road" of hegemonism.

9. China's economy can survive the war. China's dependence on exports was only 18.24% in 2018, importance of exports on China’s economic growth is gradually diminishing, consumption has already become the main engine of growth and China's R&D spending is second in the world.

8. A Marxist analysis of the cost of the trade war for American consumers and job market. "The real struggle facing the US is not China, but the greed of America's companies (...) that promote tax cuts and outsource manufacturing to countries with low labor costs.

7. Macroeconomic statistics look good on the short term for the US, but the "fatal moment" (致命时刻) when the market will start doubting the US solvency is unavoidable and the trade war makes this outcome more likely.

6. There is no statistical evidence that the trade war leads to the re-industrialization of the US. Statistic for January-April 2019 show negative growth for the industrial sector.

5. Applying extreme pressure on China is "tough in appearance but weak in reality" (色厉内荏). It will isolate the US. Qiushi asks, can the US administration afford the historical responsibility of "losing China" again?

4. Technological hegemonism can't succeed. China's technological achievements are neither stolen nor forced, they are the result of the efforts and the hard work of millions of workers. 是千千万万科技工作者自力更生、艰苦奋斗的结果

3. The trade war is based on a vision of a unipolar world order. Bolton is quoted for his view (expressed in 2005) that if the UNSC had to be rebuilt, it should have only one member.

2. The American understanding of fair trade is based on Friedrich List's view of "kicking away the ladder": when anyone has attained greatness, he kicks away the ladder by which he has climbed up, in order to deprive others of the means of climbing up after him.

1. "Zero-sum game" hegemonic mentality in the US leads to not accepting relative gains for other states even when the relationship is mutually beneficial. China has to be locked in a position of inferiority, selling shirts to buy Boeing airplanes.
