There are 2 questions about the impact of 'extreme weather' on DOD facilities but it's striking that neither of these major issues are not addressed.

Written questions asked Milley to answer ahead of today's hearing do not ask about climate change or the border deployment.

I find it unlikely that Richard Gere had much newsworthy to say. With that said, the Pentagon keeps saying that media relations will get better, and then does things like this, promoting a policy discussion with senior U.S. officials present in which journalists were left out.

Milley: When “collective self-defense” rules of engagement are authorized, US forces may defend foreign forces & individuals against any attack or threat of imminent attack. The key factors I would consider ... would be if it is legal to do so & in US interests to do so. 2/2

Remember Milley's answer re when US can act to protect partner forces in case of renewed escalation with : What factors would u consider in recommending which forces of other nations should be eligible for Collective Self-Defense, under what conditions? 1/2

"We think we've had very, very good success," General Milley told in an interview at Bagram Air Force Base -- in 2008.

Correcting my earlier with key missing word: Milley: "We're not going to be intimidated into making STUPID decisions." Promises that he won't be cowed by WH as he makes recommendations.

Nearly an hour into the hearing, no senator has asked Milley about the war in Afghanistan that will soon be entering its 18th year and as talks between the United States and the Taliban appear to be making significant progress.
