’s comments here reflect what I’m hearing from Google employees—lots of concern that Google is leaving too much wiggle room on international norms.

Initial reaction from Googlers is mixed, some think this is a step in the right direction while others don't think Google is going far enough

I think it is technically possible. I could see a future where FB funds an organization to hire the staff necessary to do that work.

I didn’t hit the mark here & failed to provide full context. I hope my body of work on this topic balances that a little, but I’m taking the feedback to heart & will contextualize more going forward.

I didn’t ask that specific question, but my guess is that it has to do with wanting to minimize the # of times an image is transferred, and keeping the tech capabilities in-house. Partner orgs helped create language & responses for FB to use.

intent there was to speak to public perception, not to diminish that important work nor to reflect my own views. You are right that I should’ve written more clearly there.

That would be great. I also asked them about studying how these images spread and ways to slow that down/prevent virality.

yeah, it is useful in a pretty particular situation—where you know your partner/former partner is likely to post something. Are there other things you’d want FB to do here?

just chiming in to say yes, if I had nudes that I thought would be leaked or used against me, I would submit them to this program

hm that's an interesting approach! My guess is that FB wants to err on the side of allowing posts, rather than having them caught in limbo until they are reviewed, but I'd like to see a test of this idea.

the issue imo is that Facebook needs to verify the images, otherwise this would be used as a censorship tool by people exploiting it
