It isn't trolling if it's for a good cause, right? This is wonderful.

I disagree. There are plenty of journalists who bash Israel and aren't respected. There are plenty who support Israel who are. And also, the way I read Daniel's piece, and having read his other stuff (have you?) I know that he's pro-Israel and pro-IDF. He wasn't writing for fame.

Agreed on the first part. Don't see the need for the nasty second part. Everyone has to start somewhere. And everyone makes mistakes. It just so happens that journalists' are more visible than most.

I was responding to the words, "it can never be appropriate to second guess the IDF commanders on the ground" etc. I think that's far too restrictive. Anyway. I'd suggest an array of: extra barriers; water cannons; loudspeakers; sticky webbing; pits in ground; nets fired at ppl.

Good on & for being one of the few UK media outlets to report ’ confession that at least 50 out of 62 killed in were terrorists Will , and uphold journalistic standards and join them next?

Maybe so, but this isn't a matter of PC. The IDF's primary consideration beyond defending Israel is abiding by international human rights law.

Yes, exactly. But even if someone isn't a combat soldier, I'll listen to their opinions if they've spoken with soldiers or read up on what it's like, or simply ask good questions and show a willingness to actually listen.

Re-reading this, given what we now know about the Hamas terrorists killed, I think my stress on unarmed protesters was clearly wrong. Questions still need to be asked about Israel's strategy and the IDF's tactics, but it always asks them of itself after any operation.

Why do you assume it's a result of pressure? It would appear that he's a perfectly rational person, and has arrived at his own conclusions. I'm sure that if you critique them logically he'll be perfectly happy to hear you out. Me too.

Dov, I disagree. Former combat soldier here, and I'm proud of my country. But still, commanders and officers make mistakes like everyone else. And, though it's uncomfortable to think about it, as with any army/gov't, the IDF isn't ALWAYS 100% truthful. Nobody is beyond criticism.

Well done, . As a former combat soldier in the IDF, I know that he Israeli is far from perfect. But, as you recognise, criticism should be accompanied by concrete suggestions for alternative methods.

The UN abs almost the entire world recognises that west Jerusalem is legitimately Israeli. It's been this way for 70 years now. Do you realise that a generation has grown up and died here, and this is all they've ever known? It's not going to change. You can't deny reality.

So no, it's not a nasty cheap shot for me to say good night from Jerusalem Israel. I'm. Just stating a demonstrable truth. It's really sad that it upsets you so much that you regard it as a deliberate attempt to irk you. I'm just stating where I am.

It's a bit like saying that Palestine is a state. It isn't. Not yet. Maybe it should be. Maybe it will be in the future. But for the moment there are no clear borders, no currency, no independence. And that's just the way it is. It's not offensive to note this.

You could argue about what should be. But in terms of the current reality, whether you like it or not, Jerusalem is part of Israel. And west Jerusalem, where I am, has always been recognised by the UN as legitimately part of Israel.

That's where you lose credibility. I'm sat in the middle of Jerusalem. There are Israeli flags on the cars outside. There's Hebrew everywhere. The cars and houses are registered by the Israeli government. The electricity is provided by an Israeli company. I am clearly in Israel.

I don't support the gendered language. Women and men alike can take responsibility for their actions. Anyway, I was not aware of the claim you're making. If you want my response to mean anything, I'll take the time to look into it. But not now, it's 4:26am here in Jerusalem, Isr.
