Rep. , an anti-impeachment Democrat, told us last month: “I’ve heard enough of Mueller.” Turns out, he hasn’t read Mueller’s report. Asked why he told “It is what it is.”

About two hours later, a Shimkus spokesman emailed with a message from the congressman: “He asked me to let you know that he’s reading the Mueller Report.”

He explained that he didn’t dig in because “there’s no drive and push in my district specifically for impeachment.” And he questioned why Trump could even be investigated for obstruction of justice when he wasn’t accused of an underlying crime.

For most of the American public, Mueller's hearing next Wednesday will be the first time they'll really get to grapple w/ the substance and findings of his report – just 3% have read it for themselves, according to a CNN poll – and Congress should prepare itself accordingly.
