THIS IS IT. The deadline to register to vote in New York's primary election on Thurs, 9/13, is THIS WEEKEND! Board of Elections offices are open on Sun, 8/19, from 9a.m. to 7p.m. for you to register in person, but mailed forms MUST be postmarked by Sat, 8/18 at the latest.

Per Hyman's piece, there's a lot more to do. It will ultimately take national policy to bring the change we need. But we're glad to be showing that it's possible to make to protect workers in the economy.

Next up for gig-workers : Intro 136 will extend the employment protections of the NYC Human Rights Law to freelancers & independent contractors. They are not covered in most city, state & federal civil rights laws Let's change that.

Our "Fair Work Week" legislation mandates stable schedules & a path to full-time work for fast-food workers (employees, not indep contractors, but still subject to immiseration through shift-work by big corporations). Props @JusticeFasFood & :

While the "Uber cap" got more attention, we just become the first city to require that Uber & Lyft pay a living wage ($17.22/hour, the equivalent of $15/hour for independent workers) to their drivers:
