In the 1900s, Juneteenth celebrations declined due to the lack of participants unless June 19th happened to fall on a holiday or weekend. Many people opted to celebrate the 4th of July as the sole independence day.

Juneteenth is coming up! What is that? It’s the oldest celebration commemorating the ending of slavery and the freedom of all Black people in the United States.
