Most people on Twitter being super supportive about the layoffs. To the minority who are tweeting snark abt "fake news" & cheering, I'd like to remind you that journalists on here are real people. It's really easy to dehumanize people online. Resist the urge— at least for today.

Endangered pangolins fall through the cracks. Chinese police bust poachers & find 33 live pangolins wrapped in plastic bags soaked w/own urine. But then every last 1 died in govt captivity. Here's what happens when enviro laws & results don't match. By me: apnews.com/4f12a88b27bd48…

From club-wielding militias to border cities built from scratch, China’s policies in Xinjiang highlight Xi Jinping’s unapologetic reassertion of state power and hint at what it might mean for the world
Here’s my report from 10 days in the region:

Many investors see peril in China’s massive debt load. But a different breed sees profit. This week, I look at the small but growing group of foreign firms that are buying bad loans from banks, and making good returns. economist.com/finance-and-ec… pic.twitter.com/E0We3EasEX

At this point seems clear that JYK’s biggest legacy may be that he handed Trump chance to install a World Bank president who could lead bank until 2024.
JYK’s case for second 5yr term in 2016 was largely that it would ensure Trump didn’t get that choice.
