True: when people talk of Russia "exporting corruption," they tend to mean "infecting" the West with its own values rather than exporting the proceeds! In this respect, maybe we could even frame it provocatively as the West "importing embezzlement"...

But how does this "strength" mean an "export of corruption" - do honest people get forced into this? I see no evidence of that. Russia is an exploiter of others' corruption (not that is necessarily any better, morally)

A pet peeve: can we stop talking about #Russia "exporting #corruption"?
Sure, Moscow - like many others - gladly exploits Western venality. But it is because politicians, institutions, etc can be bought, not because anyone forces it on them. This is our failing (+ vulnerability)

Sadly, after a 'concession' (ie, not continuing the frame-up of #Golunov, it was pretty much inevitable the authorities would go hard on today's protest, fearing that momentum would swing against them. (Momentum being even more crucial in non-democratic politics)
