Unless the Home Office acts quickly, on 12 October there will be no Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation for the first time in 34 years

.: With the Counter Terrorism and Border Security Bill 2018 making its way through Parliament, there is an urgent need to appoint the next Independent Reviewer.

Can anyone help on this - trying to find out who (if anyone) has been appointed to review the Justice and Security Act 2013

The UK has appointed someone to annually review it's anti-terrorism laws since 1984. If no-one replaces the current when he steps down in October it will be the first time in 34 years that there's been no reviewer

With all this activity on the Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Bill () it's concerning that there is still no advert for the post of Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation for when the current steps down in October

Not really, but it has been used only once (as far as I can tell) and I'm not sure of the outcome of the prosecution. Then again, Australia only has 40 returnees so far and 100 or so still in the conflict zone, so the numbers are very different to UK

David - had you seen this? () Very similar to the Australian offence of entering into or remaining in a declared area.

hopefully it won't be too often that your expertise in this area will be needed in parliamentary debate - may as well use it where you can!

and complicated further by the new Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2018 - I'm struggling even to work out what has been repealed, what's in force, and what's yet to be in force. Perhaps another cup of tea is in order!

Trying to get my head around the accountability arrangements for counter-terrorist financing measures. I don't suppose anyone has already done this? It's mind boggling!

Not sure how good it would be for UK/Irish relations if dissident republicans (for example) were stopped because they appeared to be carrying out hostile activity in Northern Ireland in the interests of the Republic of Ireland government...

I wonder how much it would/could actually be used in the border area though, given the requirement for the hostile activity that causes the stop to be hostile activity that is carried out for, or on behalf of, or in the interests of a state other than the UK

The government has published a number of 'overarching documents' relating to the Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Bill here: including this rather snazzy infographic:
