Sorry if this is a stupid question, but may I ask the reason why singles were replaced with doubles? Just curious. Thanks.

I am always looking for ways to simplify. There is no need for two sets of quoting characters, so I am just using the more reliable one.

Could you please elaborate a bit about the "reliability" of double quotation marks over the single ones?
