ACAPS is dedicated to improving the assessment of humanitarian needs in complex emergencies and crises. We support and strengthen humanitarian capacities to carry out better coordinated assessments before, during and after crises. Through development and provision of innovative tools, know-how, training and deployment of assessment specialists, we aim to contribute towards a change in the humanitarian system’s current practice with respect to needs assessments.

ACLED (Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project) is the most comprehensive public collection of political violence data for developing states. This dataset contains information on the specific dates and locations of political violence, the types of event, the groups involved, fatalities and changes in territorial control. Information is recorded on the battles, killings, riots, and recruitment activities of rebels, governments, militias, armed groups, protesters and civilians. As of early 2015, ACLED has recorded over 100,000 individual events, with ongoing data collection focused on Africa, South Asia and South East Asia. Data can be used for medium- and long-term analysis and mapping of political violence across developing countries through use of historical data from 1997, as well as informing humanitarian and development work in crisis and conflict-affected contexts through realtime data updates and reports. Despite the waning of civil wars across the developing world, ACLED data show that political violence rates have remained relatively stable in the past eighteen years. ACLED seeks to support research and work devoted to understanding, predicting and reducing levels of violence and their consequences.

Adeso, formerly known as Horn Relief, was established in 1991 in response to Somalia’s devastating humanitarian crisis and civil war. We started as a small grassroots organization dedicated to helping Somalia’s pastoralist groups, particularly women and youth. Adeso has since grown into an African-based organization working in Kenya, Somalia and South Sudan where we advocate for much-needed resources for our partner communities and work hard to co-create innovative long-lasting solutions.

The Eastern Africa Food Prices Data Portal is a web based information system for food and input prices of selected Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) member countries namely Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Ethiopia. The food and input price information is standardized and archived into a regional data portal and is easily accessible for use by regional research institutions, individual researchers and analysts. This supports analysis and informed policy-making geared towards reducing the high food and input prices. This data portal is an initiative of the following institutions: -Ethiopia Development Research Institute (EDRI) - University of Nairobi (UoN) - National University of Rwanda (NUR) - Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) - Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF) - Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC) - Regional Strategic Analysis and Knowledge Support System (ReSAKSS-ECA) hosted by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)
