Pain and punishment

Oli Scarff Tuesday 14 February 2017

"I was very sorry to have shot the last Tough Guy competition recentl," writes Manchester-based photographer Oli Scarff.

"Not only did it make for great pictures, but it was also quite a good time -- it’s amazing how much fun people can have after paying to basically be put through torture."

Andrej Isakovic Tuesday 31 January 2017

"It’s a dark world. You step inside and it takes time for your eyes to adjust. You see people on blankets. They look like corpses. You see shadows moving around. The smell is overpowering. For a moment you think that everyone inside is dead," writes Belgrade-based photographer Andrej Isakovic.

"I’ve covered plenty of stories on refugees and migrants but never have I seen conditions as deplorable as those of the hundreds of young men who are living in an abandoned warehouse behind a train station in Belgrade."
