Sessions to launch Hill charm offensive
Sen. Jeff Sessions is wasting little time launching his charm offensive to win over senators who will vote whether to confirm him to lead the Justice Department as attorney general next year.
The Alabama Republican senator plans to meet with Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on Tuesday morning, the chairman announced on Monday. Sessions himself is a senior member of the committee.

When President-elect Donald Trump announced Sessions as his attorney general pick on Nov. 18, Grassley signaled that he would face little resistance when the Judiciary Committee takes up the nomination.
"Senator Sessions is a respected member and former ranking member of the Judiciary Committee who has worked across the aisle on major legislation,” Grassley said then. “He knows the Justice Department as a former U.S. attorney, which would serve him very well in this position.”
Several key votes in both parties, including Republican Sens. Jeff Flake of Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Susan Collins of Maine and Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia have all said they plan to support Sessions for attorney general.
California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who’ll be the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee next year, has been noncommittal on Sessions, promising only that the attorney general nominee will get a “thorough vetting” from his colleagues.
