Basically, I want Gmail to show me the inbox of Google account X when I open gmail.com, while all other google services on the same browser default to account Y.
I'm currently logged in to both, and I know how to switch the default accounts, but doing so changes everything. I can't find a way to have a default Gmail inbox that is different to my default for everything else.
Follow-up question to How to switch around two linked Gmail accounts?. Basically, the root of my problem is, I have two Google accounts:
- My first Gmail account, which I created as a teenager with a very unprofessional looking name, let's call it
[email protected]. Since it's the account I've had the longest it's been my default for signing up to things and is associated with:- My Google Drive account
- Many, many site logins that use Google log in like SE does
- My Google Play account
- My Android devices
- My YouTube playlists
- My saved Google Maps locations
- Many, many other things - basically every Google service I've ever used
- The second Gmail account I created as a young adult for serious things, with a more mature name, let's call it
[email protected].
I've always used [email protected] as a "Send mail from" account under [email protected], which allowed me to be logged into everything but still send mail from a respectable name. Unfortunately, Gmail reports the sender as From: [email protected] On Behalf Of [email protected] which looks bad.
I tried unsuccessfully to change this. I've since found it's possible to be logged into both accounts at once, but, for other Google services to first use the [email protected] account that has content, it has to be my "default account", and if it's my default Google account, it's the inbox that comes up first whenever I access gmail.com.
Is there any way to change the default Gmail account without changing the default for every other Google service on the same browser?
Update - I just saw Is there a way to get directly to the desired user for a specific Google service while using multiple sign-in? which suggests bookmarking a URL for the second account like https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/#inbox (1 instead of 0). This is not a bad workaround, but I'd like to know if there's anything more direct - for example, that would direct other gmail links to the chosen account, or something involving setting the account as a delegate and defaulting to the delegate?
