Yep, that’s right--Newser has a whole bunch of fun features you can play with... if you’re a registered user.
(it’s free!) or
.
Hard/Soft Scale - We rate every story on a scale from hard to soft. When you move the "news preference" needle toward soft, harder stories (bombings, earnings reports) will disappear your home page grid. When you move the needle toward hard, softer stories (celebrity gossip, etc.) vanish.
Automatically update the grid - No need to hit refresh. Activating this setting will enable your browser to periodically check for new stories. If there are new stories available, they’re added to your grid without reloading the page.
Open in a new window - If you don't want to lose your place on the grid when you open a story, turn this feature on: Stories will then open in a new browser tab or window. Close the tab or window after you've read the story to pick up where you left off in the grid.
Show Pop-up summaries - Get a quick taste: Pop-up summaries allow you to see the first 60 words of a Newser summary without leaving the grid. To open them, move your cursor over the trigger area in the upper left corner.
Mark Stories I’ve Read - Want to make sure you don’t miss a thing? This feature darkens stories on the grid after you’ve opened either the pop-up summary or the story page, helping you see instantly what you've already read.
Use classic scrollbar navigation - There’s more than one way to skin a cat: Instead of clicking "more stories" to access earlier news on the grid, you can scroll instead ... seemingly forever!
Today’s Most Popular - Everybody else loved them—there’s a good chance you will, too. Select this option to view the most popular stories under the grid.
Headlines from the AP - Are you a total news junkie? Get even more news by turning on this option, which shows AP stories under the grid on our section pages.
