Just got Illustrator and getting familiar with the program, are there any specific export settings that I need to be aware of in order to export as a .SVG file? There appears to be several settings, i.e. Styling, Font, ect, ect. Should I just leave everything as is?

Consider if your output will be print or web. Try the default settings first, then either print a sample to see what it's like, or try opening it another SVG compatible application like Inkscape or a web browser to see if anything strange happened.
