Tallest snowman
On this day in 2008 residents of Bethel in Maine, USA and surrounding towns completed an enormous snow woman measuring 37.21 m (122 ft 1 in) tall, over a period of one month.

13 million pounds of snow were used to build Olympia the snow woman. She was only a few feet shorter than the Statue of Liberty. Her eyelashes were made from eight pairs of skis. She wore a 48-ft-wide fleece hat. Her 8-ft-long nose was made from chicken wire and painted cheesecloth. Her lips were made from five red car tires. Her arms made from two 30-ft-tall spruce trees!

To complete the look, a 130-ft-long scarf was added and three 5-ft-wide truck tires were used as buttons.

New record: Tallest snapdragon
Canadian Vern Fast grew this whopper in his garden over the course of a year. After surviving winter in British Columbia, it reached 224.79 cm (88.5 inches).

Vern's daughter Alynn helped to gather the evidence to support Vern's application to Guinness World Records. "He has even built a little fence around the area where the Snapdragon grew...just waiting for the day when he can add a little sign that says “This is where the TALLEST Snapdragon in the world grew,” says Alynn.
"Please consider this application and make my Dad the happiest he’s been in a long time."
