Texas lost 26,800 manufacturing jobs over the year ended September 2016

Manufacturing employment decreased by 26,800 in Texas over the year ended September 2016. Following Texas, California (−18,000), Illinois (−11,500), and Oklahoma (−9,300) had the largest declines in employment in the industry. In contrast, Florida (+11,800), Michigan (+8,100), and Tennessee (+7,500) added the most manufacturing jobs over the year.

Median weekly earnings of Asians were $1,010 during third quarter 2016
Median usual weekly earnings of full-time wage and salary workers were $827 in the third quarter of 2016. Among the major race and ethnicity groups, median weekly earnings were lower for Hispanics ($632) and Blacks ($685) than they were for Whites ($854) and Asians ($1,010).

Real hourly earnings increased 1.0 percent over the year ending September 2016
Real average hourly earnings for private sector employees increased 1.0 percent, seasonally adjusted, from September 2015 to September 2016. This increase in real average hourly earnings combined with a 0.3-percent decrease in the average workweek resulted in a 0.8-percent increase in real average weekly earnings over this period.

Food and energy prices down, other prices up over year ending in September
Over the 12 months from September 2015 to September 2016, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) rose 1.5 percent (not seasonally adjusted). The food index declined 0.3 percent over the last 12 months. The energy index fell 2.9 percent. The index for all items less food and energy rose 2.2 percent.

Producer Price Index for final demand rose 0.7 percent over the year ending September 2016
The Producer Price Index for final demand rose 0.7 percent between September 2015 and September 2016, its largest 12-month percentage increase since the year ending December 2014. The price index for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services, representing 69 percent of the final demand index, increased 1.5 percent over the year, the largest 12-month percentage increase since November 2014.
