As a CTO, VP R&D, or CIO at a technology startup you typically need to maneuver and make the most out of limited budgets. Chances are, you’ve never had your  CEO walk in and tell you, “We’ve just closed our Series A round. You now have unlimited funding to launch version 1.5.”

So how do you extract real value from what you’re given to work with? We’re gathering four start technology leaders for a free webinar discussion around exactly that: their strategies and tactics for operating lean.

They will cover key challenges and share tips and tricks for:
  • Reducing burn rate by making smart tech choices
  • Getting the most out of a critical but finite resource - your dev team
  • Avoiding vendor lock-in so as to maximize cost efficiencies

We’ve invited the following technology leaders from some of today’s most dynamic startups:

As software engineers, you want to transform your ideas into product development as quickly as possible, and not be hindered by cumbersome infrastructure. That’s why Google Cloud Platform is designed to help developers build, test and deploy applications on Google’s highly-scalable and reliable infrastructure.

At Google, we understand that tasks like signing up for a trial, creating virtual machines, or even just launching a Wordpress application should be easy and readily available at your fingertips. Therefore, we rounded up our team of developer advocates and put together a how-to-guide on some of the most common tasks and questions asked by users who are starting on the Google Cloud Platform.

Conducted in the form of a step-by-step demonstration, we are pleased to invite you to join our webinar on Getting Started with Google Cloud Platform, available in 3 time zones to developers around the world.

Webinar: Getting Started with Google Cloud Platform

We just wrapped up the Google Cloud Platform Roadshows, a series of developer events in 35 cities worldwide, where we reached nearly 4,500 developers spanning the globe, from Texas to Tel Aviv to Tokyo.

Now that the series is finished, we wanted to thank everyone for coming and share with you the slides and all our talks recorded live from our New York City event:

The Roadshow team sends huge thanks to everyone who attended and looks forward to seeing you next year. We'd love to hear from you in the meantime:

As students headed back to school, we were busy launching new features and programs. Here’s what we were up to in September:

$100,000 for startups on Cloud Platform
At the Google for Entrepreneurs Global Partner Summit, we announced Google Cloud Platform for Startups, a program to help early-stage companies get off the ground and into the cloud. Armed with $100,000 in Cloud Platform credit, 24/7 support and access to our technical solutions team, startups on Cloud Platform can now launch and scale faster than ever. Find out more info about it here.

New features to make your Cloud Platform experience even better
We’re always looking for ways to improve Cloud Platform. This month, we unveiled HTTP load balancing to all users around the world, released our Cloud Platform-specific Node.js client library gcloud-node, added Google Cloud SQL read replicas for MySQL 5.5, and expanded Push-to-Deploy’s support to Bitbucket Git repositories. Phew, that’s a lot.

VendAsta pulls back the curtain
Our friends at VendAsta help companies manage their brands by figuring out what’s shaping their online reputation and thinking up ways to improve it. They started building on Google App Engine from day one and were able to focus on product development instead of other issues like server redundancy, data replication, peering relationships, power backup, cooling systems, application scaling, and data backups. Now they monitor and analyze mentions of more than 200,000 businesses. Read up on how they did it here.

Sony shed light on how they broke a YouTube record with App Engine
On November 23rd, 2013, Sony held a 7-hour livestream for boyband One Direction, which broke the record for the biggest livestream ever held on YouTube. In September, we published a case study on the App Engine app that Sony built to play alongside the live stream. At its peak, the app performed 9,000 queries per second!

Customer video series kicks off
During Google I/O this year, we met with customers to hear how they’ve achieved greatness with Cloud Platform. In an effort to share these stories, we’ve kicked off a video series featuring customers who use Cloud Platform in a variety of ways. Hear from BetterCloud, Streak, and SMART on how they were able to hit the market running, and learn how Audi uses Cloud Platform as part of their connected car initiatives.

Registrations are rollling in
Over 6000 people have signed up to attend Google Cloud Platform Live - either via Livestream or in-person in San Francisco. We still have a few spots left, so visit cloud.google.com/LIVE to join us on November 4.

Cross-posted with the Google Developers Blog

With Google Cloud Platform, you can now get your hands on technologies that help power our infrastructure, and use it to power your own software.

In order to help everyone get more comfortable using Cloud Platform, we are hosting five events for developers to meet Cloud Platform senior leadership, learn to code on our stack of products, participate in code labs, and ask questions of our engineering team.

This fall, we’ll visit destinations in Europe, the Middle East and Asia:

Each stop has two days dedicated to developers. Day 1 offers a series of talks explaining why you would want to use Cloud Platform and how to build apps on it. Day 2 consists of three code labs which provide participants with an opportunity for hands-on learning using our lab setup.

To help each participant get the most out of their newly-gained knowledge, every attendee will receive a startup pack equivalent to $2,000 USD in Cloud Platform credits.

Pre-register soon, because space is limited and we expect the seats to fill fast. We will confirm your registration as soon as we can, but no later than two weeks prior to each event.

We look forward to seeing you!

Buenos días desde Buenos Aires!! Wow, we are just blazing through the summer! We had an exciting Google I/O in May where we saw the launch of the Go runtime, introduction of the Backends feature, and confirmed Google's commitment to the platform with our plans to leave preview mode, not to mention the five releases since that time. We then hit the road this summer with team members appearing around the globe, including mega events like the Cloud Computing Expo, EuroPython, and OSCON.

At Google I/O, many App Engine team members gave in-depth technical sessions. Alfred Fuller, an App Engine Datastore engineer, revealed how the High Replication datastore gives greater reliability and availability for users. Michael Handler, one of App Engine’s talented Site Reliability Engineers, discussed how App Engine works in production. At OSCON, the largest open source event in the world, yours truly gave a three-hour App Engine overview and workshop to help new users get up to speed, and earlier in the year at PyCon, described how Python users can avoid “vendor lock-in” via the Django-nonrel project by porting their applications from webapp to Django, allowing them to move on to or off of App Engine as they please with only minor configuration changes. We participate in events like these because we like to communicate with users to find out what they like & don’t like about the platform, and we often take their suggestions to heart!

This fall we have a full schedule, appearing at many developer events worldwide, including Google Developer Days and Google DevFests. At the Google events, we'll recap App Engine and those announcements we made at I/O, and you’ll learn how to build exciting applications using App Engine and other Google cloud technologies as well as how to build games in the cloud. Here are the dates, events, and locations that we will be visiting:

Fresh from our exciting news from Google I/O last quarter (launch of Google App Engine for Business and new product developments), we now look ahead to the mid-summer months. Since I/O, we've already appeared at a number of events including the Google DevFest Australia and Philippines, PyCon AU, and the Malaysia Open Source Conference, with many more coming this month. There are several well-known large conferences (and many smaller ones too) that our team members will be attending and/or speaking at, so hopefully we'll get to meet you at one of them!

In addition to the ones listed above, Google will be hosting more DevFests in Asia and South America later this year. Keep an eye out for specific dates and locations on the Google DevFest home page. There are also 5 larger global Google Developer Day events in the fall. We would love to meet with App Engine developers at a DevFest, Developer Day, or any of the other conferences above!

See you around the world!
