I'd like to reserver double click for dropping a pin in an app I'm working on.  The ability to disable 
the default zoom behavior is desirable

None as far as I know.

I experimented with reverting the zoom level and map center back behind a dblclick
event listener, but it created a very jarring experience to say the least.

sorry, I found it.
disableDoubleClickZoom = true in MapOptions
