Leading the British counter attack, the Australian 13th and 15th Brigades fought back and successfully defeated the Germans on 25th April. Around 2,400 Australians were killed in the Battle.

Throughout April 1918, Australian units helped defend Villers-Bretonneux but on 24th April the town was attacked and captured by the Germans.

Tomorrow, on , The Prince of Wales will mark the centenary of the Battle of Villers-Bretonneux in France. HRH will attend commemorations including a Dawn Service on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen.

The Prince of Wales has released a statement following the birth of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child. HRH said: “We are both so pleased at the news. It is a great joy to have another grandchild, the only trouble is I don’t know how I am going to keep up with them.”

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.
