Stories of God at Work
Hanging out in the shadows of society and living for the moment were the hallmarks of Sergio’s life. It started with drinking and associating with the wrong crowd, and he eventually became one of the major drug lords in Rio de Janeiro’s underworld of cocaine trafficking. His life of corruption left a sadness in his soul, a lack of hope that nothing could fix—until one day while he was in prison he heard the life-giving words of Jesus. It was at that moment that he understood what the risen Savior had done for him and for the whole world!

How to relate to people as individuals
No two people are exactly alike. And yet, we often deal with people as though everyone is the same. Listen in today as we continue studying Paul’s final letter and his instructions on relating to people as individuals.
Paul uses surprisingly harsh words
In his previous letter, Paul chose to use words like “love,” “hope,” and “peace.” But in his final letter, the apostle closed with some pretty shocking terms! On “Discover the Word” today, we’ll have an honest discussion about people who disappoint us, as we unpack Paul’s harsh words for a former friend.
The Teaching of Disillusionment
Disillusionment means having no more misconceptions, false impressions, and false judgments in life; it means being free from these deceptions. However, though no longer deceived, our experience of disillusionment may actually leave us cynical and overly critical in our judgment of others. But the disillusionment that comes from God brings us to the point where we see people as they really are, yet without any cynicism or any stinging and bitter criticism.

Her thirty classmates and their parents watched as Mi’Asya nervously walked to the podium to speak at her fifth grade graduation ceremony. When the principal adjusted the microphone to Mi’Asya’s height, she turned her back to the microphone and the audience. The crowd whispered words of encouragement: “Come on, honey, you can do it.” But she didn’t budge. Then a classmate walked to the front and stood by her side. With the principal on one side of Mi’Asya and her friend on the other, the three read her speech together. What a beautiful example of support!
