We will remember them. My grandfather fought in WW1 and afterwards taught me a few words of French as a child. He was one of the 'lucky' soldiers who returned home.

Mine too. He told of lying in a shell hole, surrounded by the dead and having had a leg blown off. I often reflect on the lost generations of those who did not return.

Today marks the centenary of the Battle of Amiens, a decisive victory for the allied powers during the First World War. at Amiens Cathedral later the Armed Forces will lead the whole country in remembering the sacrifices made 100 years ago.
