Blackberry and Apple Crumble – A Nutty Ginger Twist On An Old Classic
The season of mellow fruitfulness is now upon us. I have a bag full of apples from my mother’s garden and blackberries abound in our Cornish hedgerows. Inevitably, a blackberry and apple crumble will make its way onto our early autumn dinner table. In truth, this time of year is just not complete without one.

Triple Chocolate Bread – Spicy Twisty Delicious
The Great British Bake Off week three was all about bread. The first challenge was to make some sort of chocolate bread for the signature bake. Well, how could I resist? It didn’t take me long to dream up this fragrant spiced triple chocolate bread loaf flavoured with vanilla, cardamom and chilli. It proved (pun intended) to be perfect for both #GBBO and #OrganicSeptember.
Cut Caffeine, Bring on the Barleycup – Barleycup Hamper Giveaway #80
Barleycup and I go back a long way. I grew up in a health conscious household and this, rather than coffee, was the drink of choice. When I moved away from home, Barleycup moved with me. If I want an uplifting invigorating drink that isn’t tea, it’s this roasted barley and chicory root beverage I turn to. It has similar bitter notes and aromas to those associated with coffee but with an underlying nuttiness which I really enjoy. Barleycup are currently running a #CutCaffeine campaign and as part of this are offering up a hamper prize to one lucky Tin and Thyme reader. Here’s what they have to say.
Chocolate Viennese Whirls with Vanilla Buttercream & Blackcurrant Jam
Just in case you hadn’t noticed, Great British Bake Off is back. The whole country is watching, it seems. Last week, the bakers were given Viennese whirls as their technical challenge. Piping is the name of the game for these bakes and I hate piping. It was time for me to move outside of my comfort zone, however. Of course I had to do something a bit different, so I give you my Chocolate Viennese Whirls.

Award Winning Gourmet Chocolate: Iain Burnett’s Highland Chocolatier
For those of you that love fine chocolate, I have the pleasure of presenting a guest post from the award winning Highland Chocolatier. Founder and director Iain Burnett is on the board of the Academy of Chocolate and so only uses ethical and fairly traded chocolate in his creations. As you’d expect from the name, the Highland Chocolatier is based in Scotland at Grandtully, Perthshire. You can visit in person of course, but for those of us who can’t quite make it, the chocolates are also available online. I am very much looking forward to trying some of them.
Holiday Snaps – A Gastro Garden Jaunt From Hampshire to Hastings
You may have noticed it’s been a bit quiet around here. You may also have noticed a number of photos from Hampshire and Sussex popping up in my sidebar. It doesn’t happen often, but yes we’ve been on holiday. Now I’ve had a few days off, I’m raring to go again and eager to share some of the highlights of our travels. Don’t worry, they’re not too extensive.
