Thanks to all who attended or supported

our 30th Annual International BBQ!

2016 marks the 50th anniversary of our Sister City relationship with Tel Aviv, Israel and at the event the Deputy Consul of Israel helped us commemorate that relationship.  We also celebrated significant anniversaries with Frankfurt, Germany; Kobe, Japan; Torun, Poland and Douala, Cameroon as well as recognizing all of Philadelphia's Sister City relationships.

Guests enjoyed great food, wine and local craft beers, music and

a drawing featuring many area restaurants.

CITIZEN DIPLOMACY INTERNATIONAL'S NEW PRESIDENT & CEO

On January 4, 2016 Siobhán Lyons assumed her position as President & CEO of Citizen Diplomacy International of Philadelphia.  At the end of 2015 she left her position as Executive Director of the Irish Immigration Center, where she had been supporting immigrants and promoting citizenship since 2009.

Born in Dublin to an Irish Diplomat, Siobhán grew up traveling and living where her father was posted, including Nairobi, Kenya, Washington, D.C., London, England and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She served as a diplomat herself in the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs as a key member of the Irish EU Presidency team before moving to the U.S. where she worked at the World Affairs Council.

A graduate of the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, Siobhán received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Arabic literature. She fell in love with Philadelphia and lives in South Philadelphia with her dog, Breac, and is involved in several nonprofits, including Irish Network-Philadelphia, and of course, Citizen Diplomacy International of Philadelphia, where she has been an active member.

You can contact and welcome her to CDI at [email protected].

How is Siobhán pronounced?  Like Yvonne, but beginning with Sh.

The Young Artists and Authors Showcase (YAAS) encourages youth from around the globe to express the mission of Sister Cities International -- the administrator of this showcase -- through original artwork, literature, film, and photography. The competition aims to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation – one individual, one community at a time.

Each year, the City of Philadelphia Sister Cities Program invites young people from all of our Sister Cities and students in the School District of Philadlephia to participate. Here are the rules for submission for Philadelphia. You must be a student in the School District of Philadelphia or in one of our 8 Sister Cities and 3 Partnership Cities/Region.

Winners will be announced June, 2016! Good luck to all who submit their work!
