In Internet Explorer 9 map content become blurred (text is not clear) right after any type of navigation is performed (mouse drag-and-drop, keyboard arrows, panTo API). I narrowed it down to a specific CSS combination:
html {overflow-y:scroll;}
#mapholder {position:relative; width:960px; margin:0 auto;}

Removing one of the CSS rules above fixes the problem.
Simple demo of the bug can be found here - http://www.exceltech.net/map-bug.htm

I opened your demo page in IE 9, and after clicking the "Center" link, the map looks fine to me. Would you be able provide details of which version of Windows you are using, whether it's 32-bit or 64-bit, and what graphics card you have? Can you provide a screenshot please?

This repros on my machine too. Sony Vaio laptop. Windows 7 64-bit, Mobile Intel GMA 45000MHD graphics card.

It seems to be related to the width of the body element. If the body is an even width, then the map is clear. At an odd width, the map is blurry. NOTE: The divMap has a fixed width of 960px.

Windows 7 64-bit, NVIDIA GeForce GT240, IE 9.0.8112.16421
Previous posted screenshot correctly shows the bug, and also correctly pinpoints even width vs odd width issue.

http://www.exceltech.net/map-bug.htm - even width of 960px - buggy
http://www.exceltech.net/map-bug2.htm - odd width of 961px - works

Ditto... have the same issue... v3.6 is fine... its anything after version 3.7 that has this weird blurring... the test page with the old width works.

At maximum zoom levels, you can also see small white gaps between the map tiles... works fine in firefox.

This should have been fixed in the nightly, v3.8.

Just to be sure, what version has been the latest released on April 15th when you have pushed the fix into nightly? I'm unable to find any detailed changelog. I'm using 3.8.11 right now and this issue still occurs in IE9.

This shouldn't be happening in 3.8.11. Can you link to a demo please?

This is definitely still an issue with IE 9.

If I use this library:
https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false

I get blurry map content in an IE 9 window, while Firefox 10.0.2 will display crisp content.

If I change the library to:
http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?v=3.5&sensor=false

Content is clearly displayed on both IE 9 and Firefox 10.0.2.

This is intranet content, but I can provide the related JavaScript if needed.

Thanks! :)

Please provide a link to a demo using the Maps API that illustrates these blurry maps.

Here is a page that shows the same problem:
http://www.stroud.gov.uk/docs/housing/tenant_map_v3.asp

Simply move the map with the mouse and the tiles are blurred, only in IE9, all other browsers including IE8 & IE7 are fine.

As above, if I change it to call v=3.5 then it's fine in IE9.

Thanks for posting up a link to the page. Unfortunately, I don't see any blurriness with the tiles after panning in IE 9. Would you be able to post up screenshots of what you're seeing on IE 9 and IE 8 please?

I've uploaded some screenshots:
IE 8 before pan: http://tinypic.com/r/2pqp2kh/6
IE 8 after pan: http://tinypic.com/r/2s1r89j/6
IE 9 before pan: http://tinypic.com/r/2mev9n4/6
IE 9 after pan: http://tinypic.com/r/2lwkci8/6

Satellite images:
IE 9 before pan: http://tinypic.com/r/2hcl120/6
IE 9 after pan: http://tinypic.com/r/2mo3w9z/6
And after a bit more panning in satellite view I can see white gaps: http://tinypic.com/r/2ccqz2u/6

This is IE 9.0.8112.16421 on Windows 7 Pro, tested on 3 PCs here

Just noticed that I can see white gaps on the blurred map tiles in IE 9: http://tinypic.com/r/2lwkci8/6

Look at the yellow marker above "Stonehouse" and above "Berkeley"

As pointed out above. Running one of the demos, try to resize the actual browser window. Odd pixel width of window = blurry, even pixel width = ok. But I've notices this in other applications as well.. like in certain flash movies. My guess is that it has something to do with IE9's new anti-aliasing.

I'm seeing the same issue on the Volkswagen website.

http://www.vw.com/portal/en/dealers?context=Global#search=2460+Coney+Island+Ave,+Brooklyn,+NY+11223,+USA

Zooming in to level 15/16 shows blurred text and white lines that appear on top of the location pin and custom dealer pin.

It is currently using API version 3.6 in production.

I have tried using versions 3.5 and 3.9 and see no improvement.

My map has an even with, and i've tried to replace the library with ("http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?v=3.5&sensor=false") but none of them worked !

If you move the map, the text will become blur.

It looks to me its actually (another) bug from IE9, thanks M$ !

Hi, I have the same problem of blurry maps here:
https://www.vinix.com/degustazioni_detail.php?ID=3754

I experience this issue only with chrome (latest version) and only since yesterday (October, 4th 2012) on my laptop, windows 7 and ATI mobility radeon HD 5740. The odd thing is that all was fine since October 3th with the whole same configuration.

Any suggestion?

I have exactly the same problem, timing and browser as VinoC. Just from yesterday, using Chrome. IE and Firefox are OK however.

Could be my imagination, but now seems to be OK for me! Curious.

I can confirm the Blurry Google Maps using both IE9 and latest versions of Chrome. It seems to do with the fact that the Map is contained within a div that has a margin:auto; Not really sure why...

On closer inspection, seems improved in Chrome, but still not as sharp as Firefox.

Anyone found a solution?

I have also the same issue. Confirm that it´s because of "margin:auto" of the parent div. I only have this problem with IE9. Chrome 22.0.1229.94 m, FF 16.0.1 and also IE with compatibility mode looks well.

Same issue here http://garrettplanningnetwork.advisorship.com/home/find-an-advisor/. After we enter a zip code search the map gets extremely fuzzy.

Windows 8 64-Bit Lenovo ThinkPad.
