America's largest cultural celebration
until the 60th annual Puerto Rican Day Parade
The National Puerto Rican Day Parade celebrated Family Unity, Marriage Equality and LGBTQ rights, only to have the horrific attack in Orlando set a somber tone to our celebration of culture and community. In Orlando, a city with over 600,000 Puerto Ricans and a community that we also paid tribute in 2016, we lost many members of our own community because of an act of hatred. Now, more than ever, these acts of hate will fuel the Parade Board to continue spreading the message that Familia es Familia (Family Is Family) and Amor es Amor (Love is Love). We express our condolences and pledge our solidarity with the people of Orlando and the LGBTQ community. You are in our prayers during this period of mourning. We stand with you as we all begin to heal, and we honor the memory of the victims. We support the survivors and will continue fostering unity, love, strength and equality around the world.
