Sorry, I know a lot of people that don't want to build any software. Not because it's complicated, but because they don't want

I know a lot who do want to but find it very hard. I’d rather err on the side of empowering even a single person to overcome that complexity. Not forcing anyone to do it, so no one is hurt by others having access to this skill.

There's also a big difference between building software and building good software. So many people who can "build software" have no clue what they're doing. Much of this software will have to be rebuilt by people actually good at it - so there's enough demand still.
-
You’re right, but it’s a spectrum. I’m a software engineer, and I’d argue that I don’t know what I’m doing half the time

Happens to the best of us!

Do you think its still valuable for everyone to learn how to code, with tools like webflow? Will coding become an abudant skill?
-
I don’t think so, because it’s inherently complex. I think we’ll create more intuitive higher-level approaches to declaring software, and most people will use those. The vast majority of code that will power software in the future will be auto-generated.

Is that something someone actually said? What's the context? I can barely understand what would be the point in such an observation

Yeah, in quite a few threads and DMs, this being one of them:https://twitter.com/callmevlad/status/1069941655904505856?s=21 …

Oh, ok. It seems like there's a bit of confusion between "developers" and "people who can code"? I agree that coding literacy needs to be taken seriously, but maybe not everyone who codes needs to be a "developer" or "programmer".
-
This. A developer does much more than programming. A programmer is not a hobbyist coder. Coding shall be taught as much as math as a basic skill in schools, but not everyone will become a dev like not everyone becomes a mathematician.

My Math course made it easier for me to understand SQL.

Have you used webflow to create some of webflow's features?

-
Yes! A ton of our Ecommerce functionality (http://webflow.com/ecommerce ) was initially developed in Webflow directly
A small start, but Webflow is very complex software - rebuilding all of it without code is not a goal of ours in the short term. -
Wow that's amazing!

Well. I agree. There are enough aspirants trying to realise their dreams and still find it hard to get through due to skill lacking.

Computers are machines you can talk to. They are dong more and more of the work. It becomes more and more important that we all know how to talk to them.

Hmm. I guess 'functionally literate' is to 'able to write a readable book' as 'understand basic semantics like loops and conditionals' is to 'create software that meets a customer's needs'. I suspect that the two implied ratios are actually very similar.

if you can read, don't you already have the baseline to code?
