Violent crime is at 40 year lows in the USA. Never been safer as long as most of have been alive, as it is today.
Nearly every poll shows that Americans believe the exact opposite - they believe violence is at record highs.
This is because media reporting of violent crime is at record highs. More coverage, more mediums, and only reporting on what best sells ad time/space - violence.
