    Most medics/medical historians seem to suspect that diet is the reason for the change. But I've not seen anybody offer an unequivocal opinion on the subject.

    Interesting chart from a book by the great Harold Ellis. There's been a massive decline in bladder stone since 1900, especially among young boys. Anybody know why it was so common, and why it went away?

    PS top fact: until the early 20th century Norfolk had by far the highest incidence of bladder stone in the UK. Almost certainly diet-related. Unsurprisingly, the county also boasted some of the best lithotomy surgeons.
