    Nobody is arguing against a “time of calm”. The argument is against the practice of beginning Parliamentary business with Anglican prayers. What is the objection to replacing prayers with a moment of silence in which MPs/peers can reflect in a way that is meaningful to them?

    A cross-party group of MPs is attempting to end the centuries old tradition of saying prayers before Parliament starts each day. I don’t believe my colleagues should abolish it.

    How totally insane that while the ROI and the Isle of Man now have laws that acknowledge women can and should decide on their pregnancies, N Ireland laws remain back in the 19th century.

    Spent the afternoon in Parliament today discussing this issue with MPs. We mustn’t be bullied into accepting lower animal welfare standards by religious demands. Religious freedom has its limits. I draw the line when unnecessary pain and suffering is inflicted on animals.

    You might, like the , object to animals having their throats cut while still conscious to supply halal meat. If you speak out about it you risk being accused of fuelling division and hatred between communities.

    This is very positive from . She's absolutely right to prioritise children's rights and independent interests over religious demands.

    The chief inspector of England's schools has told parliament children's rights should take priority over religious concerns and schoolgirls should be free from pressure to wear hijabs. This is a reasonable response to unreasonable religious pressure

    Another reminder of the impact faith schools have on social and economic selection. But it's worth stressing that the benefits of learning alongside people of other backgrounds and being free to form your own beliefs can't be easily measured.
