    Today we astronaut Neil Armstrong, born in 1930. Armstrong was not only the first human to walk on the Moon, but he was also a research pilot in the X-15 and carried out the first successful docking of two vehicles in space as commander of Gemini VIII.

    Previously obscured by the dust, gas, and stars of our Milky Way Galaxy, the Dwingeloo 1 spiral galaxy was discovered in 1994 using the Isaac Newton Telescope. Dwingeloo 1 is about 10 million lightyears away in the Cassiopeia constellation.

    to astronaut Andy Allen! A pilot/test pilot with 6,000+ flight hours. As an astronaut, he flew for over 900 hours in space piloting STS-46 (Atlantis) and STS-62 (Columbia) as well as commanding STS-75 (Columbia).

    The lander launched in 2007 on its nearly 10-month-long journey to Mars. Once on Mars, its mission was to investigate the history of water in the Martian arctic and find evidence about whether Mars could once have supported life.

    We launched the MESSENGER (MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging) interplanetary probe from on 2004. The probe orbited Mercury from 2011-2015. It is the only space probe to have orbited the closest planet to the Sun.

    Following 3 launch delays, STS-43 (Atlantis) took to the sky (August 2) in 1991. The 5-person crew spent almost 9 days in space, during which the primary payload, Tracking and Data Relay Satellite-5 (TDRS-5), was deployed and sent into geosynchronous orbit.
