The chief obstacle that stands in the way of attaining
#yoga is the wandering nature of the
#mind. It is not easy to bring the mind under control when it is attracted to various sense objects. Experiences of the past, ties of relationships and worldly knowledge are some of the things that can keep the mind in bondage. This bondage prevents one from identifying with the true nature of the inner
#spirit. These obstacles create a veil of
#illusion through which we see the world. The veil is created and sustained by the
#ego and it's attachment to sense cravings and aversions.
#Craving is that which we
#desire, but when we do not achieve that desire we become unhappy.
#Aversion is that which we do not desire but when such a thing happens, again we become unhappy.
The unbalanced and restless mind deviates from its purity. Thus to keep the mind pure one must avoid actions which bring disturbance to it. Yama is the first step towards this and it comprises five principles: Ahimsa, Satya, Asteya, Brahmacarya and Aparigraha.
