"Into A Star Filled Land"

My very good and inspirational friend, Peter, kindly posed for this vertical panorama of the Milky Way galaxy looking south. Taken from the popular Pinnacles in Nambung National Park, Western Australia - I tried to capture the beauty of this part of the galaxy by using a longer focal length 85mm lens rather than the typical wide angle. From the horizon and tracing "up" the Milkyway are the stars Alpha and Beta Centauri, the dark Coal Sack nebula, the Southern Cross, the Running Chicken nebula, and the great Carina nebula. Plus and assortment of other stars thrown in...

As it was a hot and humid night, there was a fair bit of noise in the images - pretty much limiting how much you can push the curves in photoshop before it becomes obvious.

This was a 16 panel mosaic through a 85mm lens. A tracking mount was used for the sky and turned off for the foreground. All camera and lens settings were kept the same for all panels. Stitching in PTGui, colour calibration and stretching in PixInsight, noise reduction, saturation and some brightness / contrast adjustment in Photoshop.

Enjoy, Will Vrbasso.

Original Work "Ridge of Stone and Sand"   (www.stellaraustralis.com)

The Pinnacles at Nambung National Park in Western Australia provides a fantastic place for landscape photographs - shot back in February 2015 but only now processed.  In this shot, rows of sharp teeth like stone lines a ridge of sand under clear blue skies.

Enjoy, Will.

On this version of my Machete Ridge photo, I darkened it. I like this one better. Not so washed out, but I realize it may be too dark for some buyers. This photo shows Machete Ridge at Pinnacles National Park in Central California.
