Shave of the Fortnight -
Movember Australian Connections, Part II12 Shaves From November 21 to December 3, 2016
>
Soap -
Occam's Original vegan shaving cream, Batch 15 (XV), from Australia. I let the croap dry so that I could load it like a hard puck. This is a strong performing soap (lather, glide, post feel) with an enjoyable scent, albeit expensive $35 AU ($26 US).
>
Brush -
Wolf Whisker's Bishop brush with an acrylic handle and a Plisson knot
size 12 22mmx56mm. I love this brush as it performs as well as it looks: great.
>
Razor -
+RazoRock's Black Hawk SE razor. The efficiency is so high, I only need 2 passes for a very close shave. I did three passes on Mondays where I had two days' growth and on Saturdays to ensure closeness for shave-free Sundays. I used
Kai Pink Captain Titan Mild blade for the first 6 shaves and a
Feather Artist Club Professional for the next 6 shaves. I prefer the Kai blade as it appears to provide a
smoother cut.>
Aftershave -
+The Stray Whisker's After Balm, from Australia, which thoroughly feels good to apply and has a light non lasting scent. Although I can't find an essential oil or fragrance in the ingredients list, I notice a tiny hint of of citrus and woody notes. A few minutes later, I applied the fresh smelling Florida Water.
This kit is a continuation of Movember shaves where I use my Australian products, especially since I've owned this soap for nearly two years and this is my first use of it.
The soap and the balm are ace!The pairing of Occam's and Florida Water almost tempted me to have a cola,
maybe with a bit of rum! The scent has been around for more than 200 years, so it has earned its designation as a classic. For me, this is a good daytime, weekend scent. Florida Water is described in Wikipedia as having the same citrus base as Eau de Cologne (4711), and seasoned with spicy notes including lavender and clove.
I began reluctantly accepting that a two pass shave that provides 98% of the closeness I want for full satisfaction, is good enough for daily shaving. It's not worth creating irritation for further eliminating hairs that no one can see and you can barely feel. I started realizing this when I used shavettes, and the battle with changing my 3-pass ritual took some mental energy, but I've finally broke free.
Movember is over and it's been a great fundraising effort. We raised nearly as much money as last year, $5,850/$6,100 with less than half the MoMembers (33/68). Plus, there were 15 MoMembers who raised more than $100, the same amount of MoMembers as last year.
We rocked it! Thanks for the support!
