Irma Moving North of Cuba | NOAA GOES-16 Satellite
GOES-16 captured this infrared imagery of Hurricane Irma moving north of Cuba today, September 8, 2017. According to the most recent information from NOAA's National Hurricane Center, Irma is about 225 miles east of Caibarien, Cuba, and moving westward at about 14 miles per hour. On the forecast track, the eye of Irma should continue to move near the north coast of Cuba and the central Bahamas for the rest of today and Saturday (9/9), and be near the Florida Keys and the southern Florida Peninsula Sunday morning (9/10). Irma, a category 4 storm, has maximum sustained winds are near 155 mph with higher gusts. Some fluctuations in intensity are likely to continue during the next day or two, and Irma is expected to remain a powerful category 4 hurricane as it approaches Florida.

Hurricane Irma intensified as a Category 5 storm, hitting Cuba Friday night and now taking aim at the Florida Keys and the southwest coast of Florida, based on the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center. Irma is expected to hit the Keys on Sunday morning and while the the storm’s track and intensity can fluctuate, it s expected to remain a powerful hurricane as it approaches Florida, forecasters said.

As of the 11 p.m. advisory, the storm regained its Category 5 status with 160 mph winds, up from 155 mph winds at the 8 p.m. advisory.

Irma made landfall Friday night on the Camaguey Archipelago of Cuba
