Sykes's lark
India,Rajkot,23-06-2016.

Sykes's lark (Galerida deva) is a species of lark found in the dry open country of peninsular India. Its distribution is mainly restricted to Central India, although stray records have been found elsewhere in India. It is identified by its prominent crest and its overall rufous colouration. It has streaks on its breast which are less prominent than those found in the Oriental skylark.[Wikipedia].[Photo© - Raju Karia].

Clay lick rush hour II

Red-and-green Macaw (Ara chloroptera)

www.ross.no

This clay-lick is about one our boat drive downstream from the Amazon Research and Conservation Center in the Peruvian Amazon.
The colors of these birds are just mesmerizing and I am grateful the lick was visited during my stay. Some licks are only periodically visited, and only by certain species.

This lick was dominated by the Red-and-green Macaw, but several other species of parrot come, but mostly they are smaller and timid - waiting for their turn.

Feistiest one

The Rufous Hummingbird is feistiest of all hummingbirds. It will chase away and defeat hummers twice its size. This one could be an Allen's, I'm not 100% sure. But the mostly orange face, nape and back is a sign that it is a Rufous. Plus I found this one during the Spring which would be the right time for them to move through Southern California. The setting sun over the beach can be seen in his eye.

Greater flamingo
India,Rajkot,19-06-2016.

The greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) is the most widespread species of the flamingo family. It is found in Africa, on the Indian subcontinent, in the Middle East and southern Europe.
This is the largest species of flamingo, averaging 110–150 cm (43–59 in) tall and weighing 2–4 kg (4.4–8.8 lb). The largest male flamingos have been recorded at up to 187 cm (74 in) tall and 4.5 kg (9.9 lb). It is closely related to the American flamingo and Chilean flamingo, with which it has sometimes been considered conspecific.
Like all flamingos, this species lays a single chalky-white egg on a mud mound. Most of the plumage is pinkish-white, but the wing coverts are red and the primary and secondary flight feathers are black. The bill is pink with a restricted black tip, and the legs are entirely pink. The call is a goose-like honking. Sub-adult flamingos are whitish-grey and only attain the pink coloration several years into their adult life. The coloration comes from the carotenoid pigments in the organisms that live in their feeding grounds.
The bird resides in mudflats and shallow coastal lagoons with salt water. Using its feet, the bird stirs up the mud, then sucks water through its bill and filters out small shrimp, seeds, blue-green algae, microscopic organisms and mollusks. The greater flamingo feeds with its head down and its upper jaw is movable and not rigidly fixed to its skull.[Wikipedia].[Photo© - Raju Karia].

Striated heron
India,Rajkot,23-06-2016.

The striated heron (Butorides striata) also known as mangrove heron, little heron or green-backed heron, is a small heron. Striated herons are mostly non-migratory and noted for some interesting behavioral traits. Their breeding habitat is small wetlands in the Old World tropics from west Africa to Japan and Australia, and in South America. Vagrants have been recorded on oceanic islands, such as Chuuk and Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marianas and Palau; the bird recorded on Yap on February 25, 1991, was from a continental Asian rather than from a Melanesian population, while the origin of the bird seen on Palau on May 3, 2005 was not clear.
This bird was long considered to be conspecific with the closely related North American species, the green heron, which is now usually separated as B. virescens, as well as the lava heron of the Galápagos Islands (now B. sundevalli, but often included in B. striata, e.g. by BirdLife International); collectively they were called "green-backed herons".[Wikipedia].[Photo© - Raju Karia].
